I AM BAAACK!!!!
I have returned to broadcast again, soon.
Will post more later when time permits.
Part 15 AM Coverage – High vs. Low Carrier Frequency
A NEC4.2 analysis shows this, for the system described:
- 2.8-meter, Base-fed, Base-loaded, Vertical Monopole
- Monopole Base Elevation = 0.2 meters above the Earth
- R-F Ground = 16 Buried Radials, 3 meters in length (each)
- Radial Common Point Concentric with Vertical Axis of Monopole
- Earth Conductivity = 5 mS/m, d.c. 13 (about average)
- Applied R-F Power at Loading Coil Input = 80 mW, unmodulated
At 1650 kHz…
- Loading Coil R-F Resistance at System Resonance = 20 Ω (assumed)
- Groundwave Field Intensity at 1 mile = 84 µV/m
At 570 kHz…
- Loading Coil R-F Resistance at System Resonance = 30 Ω (assumed)
- Groundwave Field Intensity at 1 mile = 34 µV/m

Musopen Telford April 14, 2017 Update.
Bits and pieces: I drove up Rt. 309 to see the doctor again yesterday. That gave me a chance to check on that new station on 1620 KHz. It’s still a loop, but, they have a call sign now, and, are stating that they are a joint operation of Quakertown Boro, and, it’s school district. They are also starting to carry local event info, and, promising further development of the station. They seem to have upped the power a bit, now rendering part 15 operator WNAR unlistenable all the way from Mile marker 25, on North to Quakertown. WNAR remains useable through most of Telford, Franconia, parts of Lansdale, and Souderton, and much of Rt 113 between Franconia on down towards Harleysville.
That noisy / buzzy / otherwise unmoderated carrier wave on 106.5 MHZ was back on this weekend, mainly Sunday. I’m wondering if it’s a forgotten part of a church sound system somewhere, coming on and off with some other gear, etc. When it’s on, I can’t hear my own Sainsonic outside of my apartment anymore.
The crystal I have ordered for 1700 KHZ is here! Quite possibly my last custom crystal. But I am finding more and more stuff to replace them with. It looks like it will be something based on the now very popular “Arduino” microcontroller boards.
With good motorcycle riding weather approaching, my part 15 projects will temporarily go on the back burner, but I do hope to be firing up on 1700 KHZ AM this year.
Happy Easter!
I miss broadcasting
I truly miss having a signal on the air at 1620 AM, now that we are on the last week of March the pressure is on to get this house packed up and ready to move out of Salems lot.*
How the hell did we accumulate so much un needed clutter? Holy smokes! Ok Barry, take it one room at a time, one box at a time, just take it sl— SCREW IT !! BURN IT ALL IN THE YARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol
As much as I love a good bon fire, i really can’t afford to start over. I got this, i just need everyone to chip in and help out, no fuss, no mess ,uh yeah okay so there will be a mess but we can clean that up when we are done packing stuff.
Did i mention I miss broadcasting? I do.
* Salems Lot, in case you missed the reference, is from Eminem’s hit Lose Yourself in which he was referencing a book by writer Steven King where vampires take over a town and turn that eventually is destroyed to combat the evil.
As one fan said, it refers to Eminems struggle to get out of a soul sucking situation (his home life growing up).
This town would be a great place for Steven King to research and write a book about, maybe even adapted for a movie.
After I move, maybe I will go into more details about what a sesspool this town really is, until then Happy Broadcasting.

Well that was easy. I got two document series granted full view and download. Both are great, but here’s the first one from Grist magazine Dec. 1972, These are from when TIS/HAR stations first went into regular operation, They were all Part 15, and the first of their kind These are also the reason the ground lead were written into 15.219, as wel as the almost disallowing the alternate rule for manufactures..
What’s even more interesting was the 1971 Highway dept documents which includes these: https://books.google.com/books?id=7jBSAAAAMAAJ&q=info+systems#v=onepage&q&f=falsetake you straight to it.
Pages 575 to 586.. Gold mine of story of where part15AM as we know it today began. Info System proposes Federal ìHighway Department
