“It seems so close – but yet so far” would be an accurate description of the emotions I feel as we inch closer to the on-air signing on of WDXD-LP 101.9 here in Tallahassee.
Finding sponsors and donors has been challenging. As of now I have roughly $8,000 invested in the station. A brand new double bay antenna has just arrived. The tower site field has been recently mowed and mstly cleared. I am awaiting the quote from the tower man, who will be constructing our 180 foot tower.
There have been 34 sponsors and contributors. Some have been in the form of equipment, office items and the like.
Outside of the tower costs (which hopefully we will be fully funded for shortly) I am the transmitter and EAS gear (about $5200) short of the launch. I am now doing radio marathon days in hopes of being on the air by December.

Appreciate the Update
Allan I am a passive admirer of your great work to build a radio station for the people around you.
Passive because I just sit here reading about it and looking forward to your updates.
If I became active I’d drive there and offer to make coffee or do grunt work to help out.
I’m the spectator and you are the baseball game.
Great game, many innings!

Thanks, guys!
I am happy to be in the game after thinking I had struck out the final time. Overtime has been called.

One new development
I decided with the LPFM it was time to make Delta Star Radio a full 501(c)3 nonprofit. Filed the paperwork last Friday and the ball is already rolling in that direction.
That will give potential donors the deductions and write-offs they get from other nonprofits.

Business investment
As with any business startup, you have an initial investment that you predict will provide a return equal to or above your initial investment. It’s a gamble, but hopefully an educated gamble. That’s what a business plan is all about. We’re all pulling for you to eventually recoup your investment. If not, you need to be aware that there may be a time when you need to cut your losses.

Thanks, Phil…
I know that’s true. If we can move beyond the start-up mountain and get on air, we are in the neighborhood of $600 to $800 per month in pledges.
