Sunday Jan 6 – Hi All, just a quick note to say that I think we have all the bugs worked out of the upgrade (please let me know if something isn’t working as expected or if anything peculiar is still happening) so now we can move on to other changes to improve the site.
The first of those changes some of you have probably noticed and that is that the forums now have categories for : transmitters, antennas, broadcast equipment, media / content, rules / regulations etc. Over time, I will move the ‘old’ topics into the appropriate categories, but please begin using them right away – I know topics can cross the line between topics so don’t sweat it too much, just do your best to pick an appropriate category.
cheers!

Saturday Dec 29, There are a few lingering problems with the upgrade (some reports of being unable to comment, or getting 503 service unavailable errors) – I appreciate everyone’s patience as we work through the remaining issues. It appears to be a problem in the anti-spam module (which is working well at blocking the spam, but is also causing stability issues).
Again, thanks for your patience – we are almost done ๐

Friday Dec 21 – update: Well, it has not been as smooth as I would have wanted, but I think it has been a succesful upgrade. There are still a few nagging things to fix but nothing that affects actual ‘use’ of the forum.
1) resizing to work on a mobile device is the remaining thing I want to get fixed before making any other changes.
Thanks everyone for your patience!
Cheers!

Sunday Dec 16 7PM PST – well, it seems that no matter how many test upgrades I did – the ‘proper’ upgrade wasn’t going to go easily! I apologise to all but hte upgrade has definitely taken longer than expected and caused MANY headaches. It is MOSTLY done now, but not entirely, you SHOULD be able to get in and read / post to the forums etc and just presentation stuff will change (I hope).
Again, I will create another post shortly and please reply with anything you find that doesn’t work properly.
Cheers!

Sunday Dec 16 – Upgrade is going to happen today. The site will be offline for about an hour starting at 3pm PST. Hang in there everyone!
Almost done! Just a quick heads up that the test upgrades on the Beta site have gone very well and barring any unforeseen mishaps, I will upgrade the main site tomorrow (Sunday, Dec 16). If you notice something NOT WORKING, please POST a REPLY to this thread so I can keep a log and make sure I fix everything.
Cheers!

Part One is now complete – a successful update to the version we are currently running (some of you might have noticed that things got a little wonky a day or two ago and it lasted about a half an hour) there were a couple glitches, but over all was mostly not painful.
I will be updating the beta site later today to practice the major upgrade again and then hopefully we can get through it this weekend.
Cheers!

Hi Part15ers – after the successful email system upgrade last week – it is now time to complete the major system upgrade (we are upgrading from Drupal 6 to Drupal 7 – it makes maintenance easier and provides a better platform for making changes and adding new features).
I will be testing the upgrade here http://beta1.part15.us/ (there is already an upgraded version of the site located there, but it will be up and down a few times as we practice the upgrade a few times so the transition on our public site will be as smooth as possible)
After the upgrade it is likely that SOME THINGS WILL NOT WORK PROPERLY – please be patient, this is a major upgrade and it is likely that some things will break, just keep letting me know if something doesn’t work properly and I will fix it ๐
I am aiming to do the upgrade at the end of next week (the 22nd, 23rd or 24th) – I am not certain of the exact date yet, it is dependant on how well the practice upgrades go – but will let everyone know when we are closer to the date.
The upgrade itself shouldn’t take too long, perhaps an hour more or less, during which time the site will be unavailable. Again, I will let everyone know closer to the date what time the upgrade will take place.
Any questions, don’t hesitate to ask! And if there is new functionality you would like to see, let me know!
Cheers!

Smooth Going
There was a moment two days ago when the site became a little dodgy by not recognizing me in the usual way and there was even a different color pattern and design to the site, causing a momentary fear that I might have been hijacked to an imposter site.
But very soon thereafter screen actions returned to a more expected response and my confidence was bolstered by having been advised of changes taking place.
Today’s performance is so well greased I may hang out here all day while I hide from shopping mania in the U.S.
For users outside the border, today is the annual “biggest shopping day of the year” for which many actually camp out in shopping mall parking lots so they’ll be first in line when stores open.
Any day is a good day to shop Part 15.

Welcome Back From the Upgrade Outage
It was a chilling, lonely experience to find that part15.us had been swallowed into a none-zone, and I am very delighted to welcome it back from the brink.
I am seeing recent forum postings and strongly believe that I am posting as I speak.
If part15.us goes away the Mayan’s will have been right.

Yes Welcome Back and Don’t Worry…be Happy!
there is now way part15.us is going anywhere anytime soon! I am way too deep into this one ๐ Where would I be without my daily dose of Carl’s poignant points!>!

posts to home page
Hi theValley1700am – happy holidays to you!
If I am understanding you correctly, (which I might not be ๐ that is actually ‘by design’ to not have all posts bounce to the top of the homepage – at least this middle column. That middle column – for now – is mostly a discretionary place that we sometimes want to highlight a post.
New Forum posts should bounce to the top of the list of the ‘new forum topics’ list on the right hand side of the page though – so let me know if that isn’t happening (because it should be).
There are some changes coming to the homepage layout and content though so hang in there ๐
Cheers!

Yes and No…
The site looks normal using Google Chrome. However, using IE8, the list of recent posts has quite a bit of blank space before the list and the navigation tabs on the left side are slam up against the left side.
HERE is a screen shot using IE8.

Hi MRAM, thanks for the screenshots – can you try it again? (you should to dump your browser cache first) and then let me know it it is still happening.
Cheers!

Although I don’t usually use Internet Explorer, I did just tried it in IE8 and am experiencing the same results as Mrams screenshot shows.

Same Today…
I’m using Chrome right now. I viewed the site using IE8 earlier.
Everything normally on the right side of the screen follows below everything else on the left side.
When viewing “Recent Posts”, you see the normal left side first, followed by the listing of recent posts, below that are the items normally on the left side.
SCREEN SHOT BOTTOM OF PAGE. You’ll notice on the left side “MORE”.

Still working on it ๐
HI All,
Just a quick note to let you know that I am still working on the Internet Explorer Issue – I hopefully will have it resolved later today/tomorrow.

The system upgrade must have incorperated a time warp.
I keep seeing “Anonymous” post a “new” topic with no title, which was last updates “42 years 12 months ago”..
I’m just curious who he is, what he wants, and how he’s doing that?
I would ask him but there’s nothing to click.
admin says
Time Warp – I wish…
I wish I could ‘time warp’ back a day and a half and change one tiny little setting back to its original setting ๐ Yes, the ‘anonymous’ person and posts – apologies for that one – my fault. Don’t think I can stop it either sheesh.

Jon Paul,
The display is working great with Firefox and the need to scroll is gone. Thank you for all that you have done to make the site look good.

Good work!
Noticed the new categories this evening.
Like this categorization. Should help scanning messages and researching topics better.
Keep the changes coming!

Edit Function Disabled
The edit function has been disabled for posts. Though this can cause some annoyance such as when typos are seen after posting or when it is desired to edit to add it prevents some other problems.
We will be looking for another way to do this but for now the edit function is off.
