The plan is to have both an FM and AM station.

I'm most interested in the first.  However, both are primarily for my own personal use.

No streaming or SDR for this one.  The programs will be:

  • Billboard Hits - Every single record that made the Billboard charts in the late 1950s and early 1960s
  • Lost Jukebox - Lost records from the mid 1960s to the early 1970s
  • Teenage Dreams - Teen-oriented records from the late 1950s to early 1960s that never made it.  We'll also periodically play our originally produced Teenage Dreams show (I think we're at #78 now).
  • Anthology Old Time Radio - Suspense & The Whistler weekdays
  • Crime Old Time Radio - Dragnet & Challenge of the Yukon weekdays
  • Comedy - The Great Gildersleeve & Avalon Time/The Red Skelton Show, weekdays

As we've done before, the day is broken into 4x6 hour blocks, the Old Time Radio is repeated in each block, the music shows play voice tracked random selections.  Haven't decided on the weekend Old Time Radio shows yet, but they will be short run shows of the same genres.

The second station will be public domain (in Canada) material only, and as such, have both a stream and be accessible via an SDR.

Tentatively, the programs will be:

  • Classical Instrumental - all composers passed away 1971 and earlier, all performances 1964 & earlier, as per Canadian copyright law
  • Classical Vocal - the same
  • Vintage Jazz - the same
  • Roaring 20s & earlier - by definition, all performances in public domain, all composers passed away 1971 and earlier
  • Book Readings - detective & crime stories, all authors passed away 1971 and earlier, recordings specifically placed in the public domain
  • Book Readings - science fiction & horror, the same

We'll start off with the first on FM and the second on AM (which makes sense sonically) and see.  It will take a bit of time to do all this.

I like also!  Why not on weekends try Nightfall? This has the best audio quality of all of these shows. You can also promote Canadian.

You'll be able to listen to the all public domain station once I get that going.  Perhaps not as interesting to some, but I quite enjoy vintage jazz and historical classical and popular recordings.  Plus I carefully select the book readings, limiting them to about an hour each, making them un-dramatized (sic) versions of OTR.  The original Sherlock Holmes stories, Arsene Lupin (the French Sherlock Holmes), and many others fit nicely into the hour slot.

To listen to the oldies station, unfortunately you'd have to be in the suburb of Vancouver where I'm currently located, and even then relatively close.

Good idea, Mark.  As much as I can, I'll try to promote Canadian OTR over the weekends.  There aren't as many choices, but a few - Zero Hour, Midnight Cab, Nightfall as you suggest, I'm sure I can find some others.  Oh, there was also a CBC version of Nero Wolfe that was great.
