I really wish I could get one of these and use it here. If I had the money to blow I would get it and go to a lab and get it certified.
Yeah, I'd like to get the C-Quam one. I have an old school Sony receiver capable of listening to the stereo broadcast.
I notice near the beginning where he mentions you'll also need a processor, he shows the FMR Audio processor as an example. If you recall I recently mentioned these after noticing them turning up on eBay frequently. I guess he made this video before he came out with his own model processor, but every time I see one I get curious about them all over again, I don't recall hobbyist ever mentioned ng them as a option.
Also, how is it explained the condoned sale of the apparently fully assembled transmitters without certification? Is that not exactly what Phil of SStran got in trouble for? (Not that I personally care).
As for the stereo version, how do the sound on a standard AM radio receiver?
@richpowers he mentions that his has all the processing on board with no extra processors needed and just gives examples of other gear not needed with his kit as it is built in.
He explains this at 2:31 to 3:13.

@mark Right, but it's just notable that the FMR was what he used for the example. Yes, it can be legally be purchased and used in the USA, however, seemingly in contradiction to sell it legally in the U.S. requires certification. He calls it a "kit", but unless I'm missing something it's actually a fully assembled unit - right? or no?
@richpowers It is sold as a kit but he says he takes special orders and puts together an assembled one for those that don't have the skills for DIY. For more money of course.

Therefore would be much more complicated to assemble, yet it comes fully assembled at basically the same price. When I had ordered mine, Sean told me he doesn't list them often because they take him such a long time to assemble...
I find it surprising that his much more simple AM transmitter comes unassembled for the same price as his much more complicated processor is fully assembled!
It probably takes him just as long (or longer) to prepare the kit as it does to actually assemble it from components.
That being said, there is an argument that there are far fewer components than in the processor.
@richpowers You have a point. I am amazed at the board of the processor and doing this by hand instead of a printed circuit board. We would have a very hard time doing the processor ourselves if a kit. I ask the same thing as Rich, since the AM is not near as complicated and less components why is it almost the same price?
What he pre-assembles with the AM is nothing compared to the processor which he builds fully assembled.
