I don't think it would need to be that thick. Just some sort of coating so the windings don't short out. Clear varnish comes to mind or polyethylene (sp) coating. (The spray type)

I was just thinking that the varnish might wear off easily if the antenna gets bounced around in the wind, vibration moving down the radiator.

I wonder what that stuff is that's put on wire? 🙂

I've been playing and have made some headway, but I don't like the single mount point through the PVC cap.

I'll be adding a metal disk inside the PVC cap to add support to the antenna (whip) this weekend.
