Today I came across a fascinating article on a new technology that's expected to begin going into public use as soon as next year, which is expected to take a load of the radio spectrum use for Wifi, and it's faster than most internet providers are even capable of providing. It's called "Lifi, and actually uses light to transfer the data ...

http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/2015/12/09/soon-you-ll-get-wifi-through-your-lightbulb.html

“If we believe what the industry says, which is that by 2020 we’ll have 26 billion wireless devices, of which 17 billion are internet devices,” he said. “This can’t be served by radio so it’s naturally a need to find these new resources.”...The spectrum LiFi would use has “1,000 times more resources than we have in the radio spectrum.”

I've never heard of this, and thinking maybe the article was just some pie in the sky fabrication, I did a quick Google search to find that it's very real! It's not entirely a replacement for Wifi since it's only good for a limited area (like in the vicity of your light bulbs), Wifi via radio waves would still be needed to transport from the towers and such, because sunlight interferes with Lifi.
Very interesting, you ought to check it out.

very old news that tech is as old as the internet, pre dates even wifi. to get the speeds they claim requires perfect environment conditions. it in reality under real world conditions won't perform much better than traditional decades old Free Space Optics (FSO) teechnology.
