Just purchased A Sangean H201 radio and is completely waterproof, not water resistant, this is good for any weather to have outdoors. This has an 8" thick ferrite antenna(yes this is a larger portable) as does the GE super and CCrane EP pro and AM reception is as good as it gets in a home portable. FM superb also and selectivity doesn't get much better. Gets weak stations right beside adjacent stronger ones just as good as a car. Will do wonders for our part 15 stations range. Sound is nice and warm sounding but no boominess and a nice balance in tonal quality even on AM. Not muffled at all.
@Carl...If I had known about this I would have recommended this along with the MMR 99 as it has 1 advantage. Battery is external in a waterproof compartment using 2 Ds but you can use a D to AA adaptor and use rechargeables NI MH 2800mAh and get days playtime and no down time as you can have a second 2 charged and ready to go. Also don't let the 400mW output fool you as this has ample volume and goes full with no distortion and would be heard fine if noisy outside. Has good volume output for the power.
This now is my go to radio and doesn't care about rain or snow and is really as good as portables can get. Comes in a bluetooth model but also a regular non bluetooth so you don't have to pay extra for a not desired feature.
This is waterproof to IPX7 and can be dropped in the lake, pool and it will float no harm.

Thank you Mark for still thinking about my search for a good outdoor radio. I continue to be very satisfied with the Sangean MMR-99 and have developed a good habit keeping the battery charged on a regular turnover. I recently listened to an orchestra on this radio and was awed by the audio reproduction that brought the fullness of the performance to life. It is a real achievement to pack such dazzling sound into such a small package. And I also know that 400 mW can do a lot with today's small-size efficient loudspeakers. The HR201 is now on a dream wish list.
