To Mark and others,

I'm not trying to cause trouble, but I know very well who Mr. RFCC is. He has slammed me on another radio social media board. I think the man is just jealous of me, but he shouldn't be because I am in poor health, disabled, lost my small business just before the Pandemic hit. My wife and me were talking, it was for the best we sold our building and property at the right time! We would have made it through 2020 and Covid. 2021 has been o.k. for me as long as I can stand to keep my health up. I have always said to the people who love Part 15 AM or FM, I do pray you get what you dreamed of doing! This life is short! The Government over the past 25 years has proven to me they don't care about us. I'll stop with that.

I believe I sent a direct message to Mr. Crane apologizing for what I thought may have been pirate activity but was probably a lucky bunch of harmonics allowing me to pick up a signal from a station that usually isn't on the frequency I found it on. Channel bleed happens. Even the mom and pop AM/FM in my hometown bleeds all over the place on the low end of the dial using a Kaito WRX911. If you didn't understand my apology, I formally apologize again. I've also been accused of possible pirate activity before it was cleared up. I know one thing...it's clear we all love radio around here, so let's do our best to keep the medium alive in our various ways.

Also, I had inquired about a commercial station's status on another radio board and it may have been taken as being mean spirited when I was only curious about a format change. I liked the station before and after the change. So either this Mr. Crane is the person who called me out on "discussions" for the inquiry I made about the possible shortwave to FM piracy or just being nosy about a local radio station format flip (they don't happen very often). Either way, sorry for sticking my nose where it doesn't belong.

Sorry to hear of your health situation. Yes I have realized my dream of a hobby station and have gotten listeners in my area and I never thought i would on AM when I switched.
Glad you can have your hobby and I agree the government doesn't care about hobby radio....the FCC and Industry Canada but fortunately they allow us something. And with AM there's no field strength limit so how ever far you can make 100mW and a 3 meter antenna go is all good. A Procaster can cover the neighborhood even from indoors and no ground.
As for a station bleeding over the band this happens with lousy radios on FM and to a lesser extent AM but still does, as you found out. Strong locals can do this, doesn't have to be a pirate or hobby station. It happens because as I said lousy radios can't reject overload and a station can image all over. The receiver is usually the fault.

Try a different, better receiver like a Sangean or even a readily available inexpensive
Panasonic RF 2400 is good and doesn't bleed strong signals all over.
You can also try a Sangean PR-D18 for a smaller but good portable with a digital tuner that won't bleed any strong stations. Better a PR-D15.

First off, Leave the lady alone with those stations where you live. She is not a Engineer. Her dad sort of was. She has had a very hard time since her Dad passed away, leaving her with the responsibility of running what you call "The Mom and Pop" Stations in your Hometown. "I've known her Engineer for years who takes care of the one FM and two AMs. You may live too close to where the stations are, and no matter what radio you have, people will experience theses issues like harmonics and either don't know it, or don't care. Most of these radios we buy are manufactured in China. We pay hundreds of dollars for the good ones, the brand names you mentioned. They stick American Brand names on them and because of our "Good Ole Boy" system in the United States Government, and perhaps Canada, they are allowed to sell them. It takes test gear that me and you can not afford to really know if a transmitter or the antenna system (ATU The Folded Unipole) a station uses is out of wack. Weather hits these radio stations across the United States and Canada, many call it "Acts of God" from my era, or we say now "The Laws of Physics", changes the way Antennas preform. Actually, the Solid State Transmitters the Commercial Radio Stations are built more rock solid now, less likely to drift or cause harmonics, especially now since we have entered the Digital Era.

As far as Part 15 AM or FM Broadcasting goes, we can not control what the Laws of Physics does with 100 mw. Mark posted a podcast of all the pirates in Brooklyn, New York. Right now, this country is still under a Pandemic, even if we are trying to get things back to normal, we haven't made it there yet. I was informed that much of the FCC's staff are working from home. The Enforcement Bureau is very limited, as under the Former Trump Administration, and now the Biden Administration is going under fund the Commission, they have cut back, only concerned about the top 10 cities in the country. The FCC's Enforcement Bureau doesn't have the man power or resources to run all over the country to stop illegal pirates. You need to let the Corporate Commercial Broadcasters like IHeart and Cumulus worry about that. They have on staff engineers to handle that if there is a problem. The SBE knows what is going on from big cities to the most rural areas.

Who cares about a terrestrial station's format change. We have the On Line Streaming, thousands of streams out there including ones even on Facebook of all places. Go listen to a Streaming Station or Service like Pandora or Spotify, even IHeart. Also, take care of your own streaming on your website. You wouldn't like it if people went on Social Media, like Twitter, poking fun at what you play on your Streaming Website, would you? Twitter has become a joke anyway.

Finally, I know your young with years ahead for you. I'm not saying you're a bad person. Back down off the Commercial Operators, no matter if they are a Mom and Pop radio station owner, stop worrying about Pirates, even on shortwave, and just let it be. Let's make our hobby fun and enjoyable! As you said, with Part 15 Broadcasting, the United States is a bit more laxed than other countries. Let's all take advantage of it like Churches, Hobbyist, Non Profit Organizations. Let's be humble and help our fellow citizens and not take to Social Media to blast them.

H

I believe I stated in my previous posts that I would drop my concerns and not press anyone on anything anymore. I called foul on myself and explained why I called foul on myself, so why go on the attack when I already conceded and accepted your explanations of things?

As acting moderator I have to please ask that this disagreement between the two members be done off the forum as this is counter productive to the interests of the forum
which is part 15 hobby and others will see this and may be turned off from wanting to be here and that's not right.
So I am ending this thread here.
