Yeah that's what I said.

Just now an impromptu google search for "freeware to premaster audio for am broadcast"  turned up an array of nothing new, but what did catch my attention was google's ai overview at the top of the search results.

It's summary suggested (of course) Audacity and its features ect. ect. and then concludes with the following...

I nodded my head in agreement to each point untill I got to dithering...

Huh? Dithering? I cant say I've ever dithered my audio for broadcast. Maybe I should. -- I probably won't but just saying, I never heard of it.

While Audacity is a great starting point, it's important to remember that mastering for AM broadcast requires specific considerations:

AM Broadcast Characteristics:

AM broadcasts are characterized by a limited frequency response and lower bandwidth compared to other broadcasting formats.

Loudness and Compression:
The goal of mastering for AM is to ensure that the signal is sufficiently loud and compressed to fill the limited bandwidth while avoiding harshness or distortion.

EQing for AM:
AM audio often benefits from EQing to emphasize specific frequencies and enhance the audio's intelligibility within the AM band.

Dithering:
Dithering can be used to reduce quantization errors introduced during digital processing, further enhancing the audio's quality.
