Although your probably quite aware of such issues, it's worth mentioning - particularly with Windows 11, that you should make sure you (in most cases) turn off any built-in special audio effects when using it with your station.

Well, Windows NT was supposed to be this wonderful, beautifully designed system. And initially, it was.
Microsoft hired David Cutler away from Digital Equipment Corporation (DEC). He was the architect of VAX VMS, perhaps one of the best operating systems ever (by far surpassing UNIX at the time).
The first iteration of NT was essentially an extension to VMS. Device drivers were to interact with a virtual hardware layer, which then interacted in a very controlled manner to the actual hardware. The kernel sat on top of all that.
However, and you knew there had to be a however, the o/s ran too slowly in the minds of the powers that were back then. Instead of delaying the release and waiting for the hardware to catch up (which would have been about a year), they decided to hack the system, getting rid of the middle, virtual layer. It ran faster, yes, but basically introduced the security mess that was and is Windows through to today.
Add the desire to throw in every possible feature known to man (person?) kind, and you have Windows in a nutshell.
It could have been so much more (and less).
Credit to the Microsoft developers for being able to keep it going after that start, and still take the majority of the business market.
