Got You!
KDX has been worried since Busy Radio disappeared from the web!
Now I’m hearing the “Power Outage” Carport Show and wow, what a weather survival story!
“The Little Things” will be aired Sunday, July 19, 2015, 2 PM CDT on KDX AM & FM Worldround Radio on our “Part 15 Hour.”

Tim In Bovey Reads and Rips the News
The Part 15 Hour today on KDX AM & FM will include Headlines from Bovey exported by Tim as an unrefundable cultural departure.

Touched By the Little Touch
“The Little Things” program from Barry and Stephanie in Busy, Kentucky held my complete interest for its full 1-hour and 17-minutes, carried earlier today on KDX AM & FM’s “Part 15 Hour.”
Several counties in Kentucky were put in total blackness by a storm-caused power failure, but Blue Bucket Radio set-up their radio gear outdoors in a car-port and used their backup power to record a show.
Because of their thoughtful preparation and effort we were able to experience with them an actually relaxed visit there in the pitch dark.
Scroll up to Post # 1 and listen to the show.

A little things update
Thank you Carl Blare for the kind words and for airing our show. We were out of power for 4 days and the last county to have power restored. Our smart phone, smart voice recorder app, 350 watt power inverter and a durabrand rechargeable car booster worked rather well and the editing of the final production you heard was completed in studio after power was restored.
A quick note, the link i posted above will be good for a few weeks longer but at this time i am without internet except for the occasional trip to town using the wifi from a hardware store or our at&t mobile wifi.
Our mobile wifi is metered so we can’t be on all of the time. Show will now be uploaded to Google Drive and I will post the links here as time permits. We have had to tighten the belt here and the budget is nearly non existant. We will continue to record new shows, i am not sure how timely our uploads can be at this time.
Also Radio Cairo to North America (shortwave station) is carrying our show. Time and Frequency is unknown at this time.

Set for Next Sunday
Thank you for the update Barry and Stephanie, the “After the Power Outage” show is set for airing Sunday, July 26, 2015, 2 PM CDT here at Worldround Radio.
Listening to the “Power Outage from the Carport” show for me was done during a brief pause between raining and storming with me out on the ground clearing overgrowth listening on the Sangean U1 Construction Site Gas Meter Radio (see the thread titled “Yard Radio”).

Suggestions or comments on sound
I am curious about the over sound quality of all the shows you have heard so far Carl. In fact , if any members have suggestions or comments i am open to hear them, sometimes I do a lot of editing before the final product is uploaded which is necessary when kids are running around the Radio Ranch. Thanks

Blue Bucket Radio Sound
Even though I now stream in stereo because many of the music concerts carried on the station are stereo, I have been listening to everything in mono so I can judge clarity of speech.
The voices heard on “The Little Things” shows are clear and easily understood.
It would be interesting to know how you do it… I am guessing you and Stephanie each have your own mics…
What kind of mics are they?
Tell you what, right now I’ll put your latest show “on the rack” (loaded into Audacity) and study it closely. Within the hour I’ll be back with any other observations.

The Lab Result
Something unfair just happened… I got back with 5-minutes still on the Editing Clock of the last post, but while I was adding my message the time ran out and cut me off.
Viewing “After the Power Failure” in the Audacity editor there are two channels which means the file is “stereo,” but the graphs were identical showing no differences, so I think it was mono sound in a stereo file.
Barry, your mic seemed centered right on you while Stephanie sounded farther away or her mic was turned lower.
I tossed some compression on the program with these settings:
Yes i have mentioned this to Stephanie, she tends to get comfortable and slips too far away from the microphone. We have that situation resolved and you should hear her lovely voice up close and personal.
With that being said, we are in the process of finishing up a mobile show that was recorded using the Smart Voice Recorder app while driving to town in our Jeep. Some creative editing will take place during the final edit of the show. Who knew smart phones could record with so much clarity, in some segments of the show you can hear other things besides the hosts, such as cars on the road with us, birds, people in the parking lot etc, The hardest part to listen to was when we were in heavy traffic, this phone picked up a lot of heavy bass associated with traffic etc.
The second half of the show will be recorded in our studio because the whole trip to and from the store was only 35 minutes round trip. We did not record us shopping lol
Should be interesting.

The microphones
We use three microphones, one for Stephanie, Myself and a guest. The mics are condenser type and are pictured below, they are not top of the line but they do the job pretty well.
or look for a new blog post for the images, internet seems to be acting up again. Now where is my hammer?

WARD 15
WARD 15 is the new radio program featuring productions from inmates of part15(dot)us, in treatment for nearly imaginary low power radio broadcasting part real, part fantasy.
WARD 15 will be heard with ALPB supervision on KDX Worldround Radio, with Tim in Bovey’s News Headlines, Atrain Radio’s “Rant,” and Blue Bucket Radio’s “The Little Things” with Barry and Stephanie speaking over real radio microphones about life after the power onnage (opposite of an outage).

Barry, your mic seemed centered right on you while Stephanie sounded farther away or her mic was turned lower.
I tossed some compression on the program with these settings:
Threshold: -33 dB; Noise Floor: -55 dB; Ratio: 2:1; Attack Time: .20 s; Release Time: .20 s.
That brings the sound closer to the listener.
