I posted this on the ALPB and sharing it here as well.
We have some pretty nasty weather happening right now in Eastern Kentucky.
Several storms have already moved through the region and there are more to follow, thunderstorm watch until 10 pm ET and flash flood watches until 2 a.m. ET Tuesday morning. The creeks were already on the rise from storms we had the past couple of days and it’s looking like we may have another flooding situation like we had a year ago.
Currently Blue Bucket Radio is airing NOAA Weather Radio from 162.475 Mhz using the satellite feature in Zararadio with station i.d. , temperature, humidity and time updates firing at the top of the hour. All other programming is suspended until further notice or in the event we lose power.
Power outages are common around here in the event of severe storms, we have been lucky so far but keeping an eye on the creeks and radar.

As i am about to press Create Thread, it is calm here.

Creek is on the rise
It’s 6:02 PM ET and I just went out to check on the creek in front of the house.
So far it has risen enough that it would only take three more feet of water to flood the road. I have not ventured out towards either end of our road to see if two of the major trouble areas has broken out of the banks of the creek to flood across the road.
I’ll let you know hopefully before sunset.
p.s. yes, it is still raining.

Freaky Weather Moving Around
Around the end of last week tornados, lightning and wind dogged the Mid Mississippi Valley, in New Orleans the Jazz and Heritage Festival was flash flooded with ankle deep muddy water, and now things are happening in Blue Bucket Country.
Don’t get washed away!

Things Are Calming Down
Things are calming down now, storms have moved out of our state but the rivers and creeks are still full and moving excess water out of the area. I took a drive to a mom and pop store for some RC cola for our supper tonight and shot some short video clips on the way there and back home.
This video is not correct on the time line and there are clips of driving home before and after actually driving home…huh?
It’s not in any sequential order but hopefully you get a sense of what we are dealing with here around Busy/Willard,Ky.

Looks nice there…
Looks nice in your neck of the woods. Nice living out in the country.
Everything’s so green, leaves on trees already at the beginning of May?
Yes I can see the damage that would happen if that river overflowed.

It is beautiful here
It is beautiful here and treaturous at times.
But for the most part you adapt to your surroundings and you learn to expect anything during extreme weather in these mountains.
The tree’s didn’t really bloom out big like they are now until about the last week and half of April. We were a bit dry since March, what rain we got was minimal for our area, once it did rain things really took off.
We live in part of the Appalachian Mountain range as well as the Daniel Boone National Forest so the soil here is rich and healthy. I love the area, although there are some disadvantages, one being the roads, some are one lane roads or a lane and a half, cost of living here is a bit higher even though there are no real jobs here, the wear and tear on your vehicle.
I have a video some where here of a land slide that diverted traffic to another road adding half an hour to our drive to town and another of some flooding that happend a year ago on my road.
It’s almost paradise. lol

In the first video it seemed like you might have been getting some hail, it sounded like ice hitting. I’ll bet Nakeeta was really in hiding when that thunder blast occured!
Good drive around to see your area, it would seem like a mountainous would be good for AM, on the lower frequencies too, so maybe try carrier current down low. Fun to see that bobble headed puppy on your dashboard, constantly smiling, even with the flooding, you dad you. ๐ Dads can never get away from that kinda stuff…

Solar powered pup
Yeah my wife bought a bunch of those this guys, a raindeer (rudolph i think) santa clause, a turkey and hmm seems like one more. Anyway had it been sunny when i shot that video the head and arms would move, theres a solar cell and a motor in those things.
Kids leave a few toys in the back seat for those days when we take long boring trips.
I added my touch to the Jeep too , there is a Zombie Outbreak Response Team sticker on the back glass and another made of chrome on the gas tank door.
That whine you might have heard in some of the video’s was the fuel pump interfering with the CB radio. I need to add a filter to it sometime.
The hail was pea sized while in some other places it was about the size of a super ball or half the size of a golf ball. Nakeeta stayed beside my wife and i most of the day, now that things have calmed down she is sleeping where ever she wants lol.
She actually tried to find me when that thunder struck, when i came back into the studio she was laying nearly under my wifes chair.
Edited..

BBTV
Blue Bucket TV is great!
If I was a bird I would definitly move to Kentucky!
That water looked angry in some places.
I spotted a few places that looked prime for a little mud sliding.
Electricty and water make for a great duo.

Solar powered pup.. Okay, I have to know where to get them, in the interests of those who might have watched the video. ๐ Actually, I’m interested in getting it for someone special. I would have liked that a lot as a younger kid too, as one who would watch the guages in the dash over the back seat when my parents were driving, that would be another interesting thing to look at, aside from the scenery going by.
Did you hear that someone hacked highway warning signs a few years ago, and upgraded the message to a zombie attack warning? There are pictures of it somewhere.
I’m not surprised your Nakeeta was bothered by the storm, it seems like most pets are scared, maybe it’s because we all close windows or turn off radios and pull antennas out, or it’s a natural behavior for animals to get scared and take cover in a storm.
CB in the car, that’s cool, like on Dukes Of Hazzard, everyone had CB! If the zombie apacalypse happens, zombies will pull our internet wires out and down the cell towers, then all we’ll have are our CBs and part 15 stations to communicate with. Well, I don’t have a working CB station, but I’ve gotten some CB equipment at flea markets, and the great thing about it is it’s cheap, when people got phones they must have dumped it massively.

Solar Pup
Nate Crime,
We bought these at the Dollar Tree but I think Family Dollar has them from time to time.
Only trouble is they are seasonal, i am not sure when they will be available again unless you find them online on ebay or maybe a store that re-sales over stocked products like Big Lots.
You saw the puppy which i think is actually a bunny for Easter, here is the rest of them. There wasn’t enough light in the house to make then dance so all i took was a picture. They come with doubled sided tape to fasten it to the dash.

That’s cool, I thought the solar pets would be something ten dollars each for all they do. I can see that one in your car being a bunny, since it’s pink. I just found a kind of comedy to the video, with that happy smiling face bobbing along while scenes of the potential devastation were going by, that kind of hit me.
There’s Dolgencorp’s Dollar General stores, Family Dollar and a few other dollar discount and overstock places I could look.
Thanks for the picture, and I had a look at your site again, a professional presentation of your station and the little things. I like the focus on radio here, but it’s also nice to see some of what goes on behind the keyboards of the folks who write at Part15.
I should consider getting a website too for some of my pictures and what my radios are doin’. Thanks.
