As you may already know the history of my radio station from it’s humble beginnings as 97.7 the axe. rock 95.7 and rock 105.3 in London,Ky and eventually our new location at 102.7 Busy FM in Busy Kentucky.
Busy Ky is located 5 miles north of Hazard Ky and is located inside a portion of the Daniel Boone National Forest park system though right were i live isn’t necessarily part of the park it is however the middle of the Appalachian mountains so it is breathtakingly beautiful here.
And yes plenty of wildlife and coal mining here. But there is more importanly a lot of rich culture as well, not rich as in rockafeller rich but more of a history sense of the word.
The television show The Dukes of Hazzard was based off of the city of Hazard,Ky but was filmed in Georgia and the name changed to Hazzard rather than Hazard.
That was due to some disagreement between the producers and the city.
At any rate i really like it here.
Now as far as the radio dial goes, am and fm are well…dead..sort of.
There are only a tiny handful of stations here on both am and fm with one of those fm stations being a 100 KW blow’ torch of nonesense. A personal favorite of mine is WMMT 88.7 FM with many translators or relays nestled in valleys that would other wise have no local station to listen to because of the adverse terrain. They have a variety format with country, gospel, folk, bluegrass and my favorite Classic Rock. So they get a gold star in my book.
As for AM radio, distant signals are awesome here at night so dx’ing on AM is a must and very enjoyable.
Busy FM is for the time being operating on a dipole antenna 8 feet off the ground with very poor coverage, well my road has great coverage but then there are mountains on each side and only 6 houses on this road. Most of my fm signal is going out to the bears, squirrels rocks, trees and hillbillies lol
So my plan is to go AM and install either carrier current or a procaster ground mounted with radials. FM just won’t make any difference here even if i pushed the limits slightly past part 15.
Right now Busy FM is running on from an HP Desktop computer running zararadio and the built in processor connected into a Ramsey FM 25B and a simple wire dipole antenna.
Here is a video of the station in action playing the LPH #80.
I will try to keep everyone in the loop here as time permits, currently we are having trouble with the phone company who is offering no immediate solution to our DSL problems so i am lucky i am able to post this here let alone upload a video to youtube.
Enjoy
