Well, I was just informed that an offer we made for a house was accepted.
My wife owns two horses. The cost to board the horses has climbed to the point that it is another house payment.
Well, I was just informed that an offer we made for a house was accepted.
My wife owns two horses. The cost to board the horses has climbed to the point that it is another house payment.
So, we decided (reluctantly) to move out where we can keep the horses at home. I say reluctantly because I’m too comfortable right here. Six years to retirement, 6 years until this house is paid off. In 6 years I was supposed to have finally made it.
But, as they say, if momma ain’t happy, nobody’s happy. And besides, it makes financial sense as the new house payment will be less than a house payment plus board. At least I hope it all works out that way. Of course we’re taking on more than six years.
So, at some point MRAM 1500 will be off line for a short time. We can start moving into the new place about a month from now.
Oh man…

Love of Horses
I’ve known quite a few women who have a deep affection for horses, but I’ve never met men who loved them, although it stands to reason there are some.
Living with the horses sounds like a better idea than having them at some distant location.
You will be able to pipe part 15 programming into the stables.
Put on a saddle and go out and do field tests.
Another good thing with part 15 is that you do not have to file paperwork to move your antenna location, unless the ALPB starts requiring it.

Lucky Duck..err Horse
Those horses are lucky to have you as an owner. I know of one individual who had pure breed racing horses and did not tend to them very well. Let’s just say that bumbs on the streets had better living conditions than the horses.
Horses need plenty of room to roam in. They need daily tending and attention. They are in of themselves a full time job.
Well good luck with everything!

Tools of the Trade…
Yes, many horse owners treat their animals as nothing but tools. If they don’t perform well or get to old the animal is destroyed unless someone will take it.
Our two horses are rescues from the race track for that reason.
As for our move, the wife finally got a reality check and things are on hold for the moment.
I still have my eye on 5 acres with a manufactured home (read like double-wide) for under $90K.
We can easily afford that, put up a small barn and either rent the house to a caretaker or take turns living there ourselves.

Other Ideas

Maybe finding a chunk of space just for the horses might be a better option than relocating everything and taking on a new mortgage this far into paying off your current home.
Find a plot of land, 5 acres or a bit more, maybe a lot with a stable or shelter, or have one built and visit/tend to them each day. The daily short trip may also add some relief to the everyday dullness routine too…ie get out for a bit so to speak..for both.

Never a Dull Moment…
That is her main complaint, gettin’ out everyday to check on the horses.
She’d like to look out her back window and see the horses.
So,yes. I think buying the $90K place would work. The payment would be the same or less than boarding the horses. Rent the place to a caretaker or take turns sleeping over.
And, a small antenna farm and a Part 15 operation.

Morning Dream
Sometime in the future MRAM’s new neighbor finds a good radio station, but is only able to get a strong signal when the horse comes up to the fence, so he starts giving the horse treats.
What’s going on?
It seems that MRAM has mounted an AM transmitter on the horse and his signal is “mobile”, coming and going with the horse.

Sorry you have to move, MRAM
I mean – I’m sure it will turn
out fine.
But it’s a lot of work.
