LunarCaster Radio Automation Software

March 13, 2014 by RichPowers

LunarCaster.. It seems to be still under development but from what I’ve gathered so far it is fully funtional with no major bugs. There have been several updates applied to it and it’s free to download.. I will take a closer look at it soon and play around with it to see how it feels, but for now I thought some of you might want to check it out too.

It looks pretty interesting.. http://www.lunarcaster.com/index.php/screenshots

I really like Zararadio, but you never know..

Uhhh.. I wasn’t paying attention, just noticed it hasn’t had any updates for about a year.. this might be a dead project.

      Where It’s Due

Like to thank you Rich Powers for bringing home such frequent toys and goodies for us to know about, even the stuff that might be older.

After all, Zara is kind of old but still a favorite.

        That’s true Carl.

        That’s true Carl.

I got so curious about this Lunarcaster that I started digging around a little.. Been skimming through a 15 page, 140 post long thread on a broadcasting world forum from back in 2012 http://forums.broadcastingworld.com/showthread.php?11195-LunarCaster-DJ additional features were requested and implimented into the software.. there was a lot of testing and interest going on.. I’m surprised I never heard of it before..

Another brief overview can be read with some aditional forum discussion links at
        http://www.broadcastingworld.com/reviews/radio-automation/LunarCaster/LunarCaster-DJ-/

There’s also a Lunarcaster quickstart guide video on youtube uploaded by the developer on July 14, 2013 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qYlb6BGlzWQ

There’s an old thread in the winamp forum archive where some guy had this to say: http://forums.winamp.com/archive/index.php/t-324816.html

“…Lunarcaster- The newest version BLEW me away, the windows streaming game just got +1’ed in my book thanks to this program. Its a little different to set up, as you have to install MS framework 3.5 prior to installation, and MS MYSQL server prior to installation. Both extremely easy to install through MS site.

You add the codecs, and your set. Features include multiple streaming sources (YES, you can take multiple sources without stereo mix) and a whole SLEW of added little features I wish others had thought of.

        http://www.lunarcaster.com/

I have actually been requesting to some features here, would recommend others get in on this..”

The download links on the website are active, I downloaded the most recent version v1.2 Alpha 4 (only 3.8mb) and loaded it up, added a music folder and played around with it a little bit.. I’m not too versed with it yet, but it seems to operate fine so far.

I haven’t messed with the streaming capabilities yet, as I don’t have a server to stream to yet.. I don’t know.. I’ll have to play with it more before deciding how much I like it, but first impression, I do like it! It new! It’s full featured! It’s FREE!

I hope some of you give it a test run and pipe in on this!

Maybe it’s just that I like the name “Lunar Caster”!

But I am so familiar and comfortable with Zara..

        We’ll see..

          Ive had a play with

Ive had a play with Lunarcaster. Started when it first came out up to the last version. Its good software, but for me it cant beat ZaraRadio at the moment. The one advantage it has over Zara is it has the built in streaming encoder. But the scheduling is not as good. It is now off my pc due to the reformat a few weeks back.
