Plenty of disposable discs accumulate after awhile, CDs and DVDs which, for some reason, become junk. Are there secondary uses for these interesting bits of physical material?

As a recording service over several years one of our jobs was printing labels direct-to-disc, and when printing a “sample” or “test” label, we used the junk discs so that we wouldn’t waste a good disc. During that time we learned that almost anyone we asked had a batch of useless discs.
This morning I was re-arranging stacks of pointless discs and again I began wondering, could they be used to build something or tile something or other clever application?
I bring it to the think tank for your ideas.

Flying Competition
I think you should look at a station promotion encouraging folks to bring their discs for the purpose of “flying” them in competition. Categories could be: shortest flight, longest flight, best shot for accuracy and the worst, disc on disc mid-air combat, best boomerang shot, or maybe develop a sort-of golf course for computer discs (like they have for Frisbees). These are just a few suggestions off the top of my head (which is very bald).
The gathered discs could be collected for recycling at the local Depot.

You all missed it totally…..hang all those cd’s on the towers you are so worried about birds flying into. Use yer brainz…

Brainz?
Why should I use my brainz when we got yours to use. Lee, you are the brainz of this community, right?

What About An Ultra Ground Plane
What if the whole yard where tiled with thousands of junk discs. Would that provide a ground plane effect?
Perhaps if the discs were laid on top of the radials?
Perhaps if the discs were placed under the radials?

Weird Science 🙂
You could fashion a rather large solar reflector to super power a solar cell array.
You know, just like the newer generation telescopes that use hundreds of individual mirrors to form one very large adaptive lens.

CDs and DVDs as ground planes
While CDs and DVDs are very reflective optically, they are not very conductive electrically. Therefore, they would not make very good ground planes. Even mixing carbon nanoparticles with the polycarbonate will not make them conductive enough.
