Last night was a mostly successful broadcast! Thanks to all for helping out! FM transmitted beautifully (the best I can tell) but we had 0 output on AM. I have the oscillator not-oscillating but I have a Ramsey AM1 that I’m going to get going this week just in time for next week’s broadcast. The “talking house” transmitter from the garage sale for $8 turned out to be worth less than the cost, but everything else went off without a hitch…I also have a crystal for 880 KHz (which I was going to coordinate with the other two frequencies) so I don’t know if I will use 1000 or 880 on AM yet, I will let you know! Let me know what you think!

Plan C
Welcome to Broadcasting Mr. amradioman.
I do have a suggestion regarding your AM frequency choice.
Stick with your original plan at the beginning, operate at 1000kHz, a very nice middle-of-the-dial spot.
Then, as you go along, announce plans for a second transmitter coming soon to 880 on the dial!
You will then be heard at two mid-dial locations and one FM.
I have three AM channels, soon to be five, three FM spots.
The dial belongs to amradioman.

Rollouts
Thanks for the progress report. There seems to always be glitches with new rollouts of equipment and, though sometimes frustrating, these are good learning experiences.
I’ve been doing Part 15 AM for over fifty years and still have unexpected technical troubles now and then. It is part of the experience.

That’s Right!
I’ve been doing Part 15 AM for
almost fifty years too.
So amradioman, I’m curious.
Where did you happen to find
a fundamental crystal for 880 kHz?
AM BCB crystals below 1000 kHz are
so incredibly hard to find.
880 kHz is in big use here. but
still, I’m curious.

The one place I hate, almost as much as Wal-Mart…
I found this one on Ebay just about 3 weeks ago, and put in the minimum bid of $9.95 (plus shipping) and kind of forgot about it. Then, last week, I got an email congratulating me on my win…and the rest is history in the making…I hadn’t seen any below about 1100 in a long while either, and the same guy that sold me this one has a few others on right now, you might check him out on ebay…he had a 970 KHz, and a few around 500, along with a whole bunch located in 160, 80, 40, and the like…I thought for the price, I would check it out, and may do some other business with him later as well, if they turn out to be fundamental crystals after all…

Crystal
Nice score on the XTAL. Keep in mind that you can tune the oscillator tank to the second harmonic and also use this crystal for 1600 kHz if you want to QSY.
