The “Media Geek” radio show hosted by Paul Riismandel from WNUR-FM in Evanston, IL, just reported a few items from the newly re-furbished FCC. They apparently plan to open a web page inviting public input on future ideas, and they are considering expanding the FM band to include the vacated analog TV channels 5 & 6, which are directly below the existing FM band. As part15.us has already discussed, 87.7 (TV 6 audio) is already usable on most receivers.

If the fcc…
If the fcc did in fact open this section of the fm band it would be awesome.
Just two more clear channels for part 15 devices to use.
Wich as you said many receivers already tune that low and our Scosche FMT 4 transmitters would already be compatible as would many other devices.
But with this “possible” change should come another change as well, something in the order of 1/2 watt of power for part 15 fm devices along with the proper filtering wich should be mandatory.
I just have a personal belief that the present part 15 rules need some changes after all these years. Sometimes change is a good thing.
Anyways thats my take on this situation. Lets hope something good comes from all of this. *crosses fingers and eyes* 🙂
