The Caravelle came out around 1961. It was a combination Regenerative AM Receiver and AM Voice/Code Transmitter.

The Caravelle came out around 1961. It was a combination Regenerative AM Receiver and AM Voice/Code Transmitter.
The transmitter was very unstable, changing frequency when you keyed the Carbon Button microphone.
The range was very limited, maybe 100 feet.
Of course, even way back then, I modified it so I could feed my record player directly into it.
The Caravelle gave Rush Limbaugh his start in radio. I guess we took different paths.
I got three of ’em from Ebay.

Two fairly famous radio guys credit the Caravelle with helping them explore their early love of radio, Talk Titan Rush Limbaugh and Shock Jock Don Geronimo both speak fondly of this rather imaginative toy.
