As I've stated previously, I plan on bringing back the Artisan Radio Blog.
This time, however, it will be done a bit differently. I've mentioned that I've been experimenting with Forum software, phpBB to be precise. This time around, I will be using that software to implement the Blog.
There are a number of advantages to this. One is that I can manipulate permissions to be the only one who posts, while letting others reply to those posts if they desire (while also providing a moderation mechanism). Another is that it provides an easy mechanism to separate Blog posts into various topics.
I was thinking of starting up a parallel Forum to this one, focusing on Canadian content only, but have decided against it. I have no desire to compete with Part15.org, but rather to complement it, and the Blog is the best way to do that.
There are plenty of Canadian-only considerations and interests that may not be of interest here. So I believe there is room for both.
A blog is good if readers can reply and it's not just a one way street so to speak.
So it's a forum in a way.
Just an update.
My new ISP has to come in and fix the connections to my abode before it goes live (the self install failed - as I suspected it would). These things usually take far more time than expected. It should be up by the end of the month, as there is about a week wait time.
The new and improved Artisan Radio Blog is up and running. There are just no connections to the Internet yet. I've been posting to it, so there will be some content when it goes live.
Because I will be streaming, my radio format will be changing to all public domain (in Canada) once again. Vintage jazz and classical recordings, select OTR, book readings.
I will continue to post the Teenage Dreams shows to MixCloud (which pays the copyright fees). I'm thinking of starting a similar show featuring popular music from the Electric Era (1925-1945 approximately), where there will be at least some material in the Canadian public domain. There's far more in the Acoustic Era (pre 1925), but the sound quality is pretty awful. We'll see.
@artisan-radio Will there be any comments from readers possible? Are you still going to be here?
I mean, a blog being a one way street that doesn't allow for any input is like talking to the wall. And the only people that see it are the 1 or 2 that know you.
Re the Artisan Radio Blog.
Anybody can read the posts and comments. It's totally open, like this one.
Registered users (no restrictions unless you're a spammer, and there is anti-spam protection) can comment on any posts. They just will not be able to start new topics. It is meant to be primarily a blog, after all.
New users (less than 3 comments) may not see their replies until they go through moderation. After that, the comments will be displayed immediately. I'm still not quite sure if and how that works, and I may even remove that restriction, depending.
As for the 2nd question, it's getting a lot harder to stay on a Forum that basically caters to the U.S. (even though the server is in Canada), while the leaders of that country (supposedly an ally and a friend) continue to insult and threaten my home country, i.e., Canada. But for the moment, yes, I will be staying.
I do believe that there does need to be a Canadian presence here.
If, in the future, I determine that my time and energy is better spent on the Artisan Radio Blog? Who knows then. But that's in the future.
I'm trying to set the Blog up as a Canadian-centric website/blog hybrid, a place to go to get Canadian legal, unlicensed broadcasting information quickly and easily, rather than searching through a bunch of unrelated topics and interests.
@artisan-radio I agree about Canada and that all here is based on the FCC and USA.
And we have been threatened again with 100% tariffs because the US president doesn't like a deal between Canada and China...everything has to depend on what the USA likes or doesn't like or "else"
I'm with you on this. And this feeling by me or Artisan isn't about the American people, it 's about one man. But as I said when he got elected that I try to put that aside and think of this as a forum about a hobby with all welcome with no borders.
The more online presence concerning the hobby the better (preferably active/updated). I never considered the present political friction between our two countries to really have any bearing on any aspects of our hobby, but I get where you're coming from now. Before I didn't really get it.
Anyway, good luck with it I'll be checking it out when it goes live. I'm sure you'll still continue to make appearances here now and again.
@richpowers Yes we will still be here. Artisan is still admin and I am still moderator. The conflict with our countries has nothing to do with the American people and we/I still consider American people our friends. It is one man that has been threatening Canada and wants to have the world obey him it seems, or else we get punished. Like I said before, I try to think of this as just a hobby forum with all people in any country welcome. But this friction just makes us want to be more patriotic and that is the idea behind a more Canadian based forum or in this case blog. We know all about the FCC as most discussion here and other forums is FCC based so Artisan's blog will be more Canadian based.
I believe that there is a place for a site that is focused primarily on Canadian unlicensed, low power broadcasting.
When I first started out, there was really no place to go to get the straight scoop for Canada. I had to poke around, prod and eventually I got the right picture. I hope that the Blog will alleviate that work for a lot of Canadians thinking of doing what we do. I know there are some, I see them in searches occasionally on Facebook and other sites dealing with amateur radio. And most of them don't appear to have their facts straight, either.
The correct information is here, in the Part15.org Forum, but scattered around, as you would expect in a forum.
Over at HB, the few that are still there really don't care about Canada, and even when they do talk about it (back before they made their forum opaque), they get it wrong. They seem to think that RSS-210 contains the regulations, when, in fact, it's BETS-1, and we all know that the two sets of rules are different in many ways.
But then, when you don't care, what's a few mistakes, particularly if you're 'premier Part 15 site'. And it doesn't matter if no one can see what you're talking about - they should just take your word for it. Right?
