If it was me and I was in the USA where certification is not necessary but helpful I would get this for less than half the price they were asking for the SStran. New and built.

@mark I stand corrected, the Culbert transmitters do incorporate a processor and yes those Hurricanes are cool.
You know, I know in the past I have spent thousands on gear directly associated with my station, I never had regrets, hobbies cost money. I'll never forget how, after some friends pressed me on how much the Rangemaster cost, how they stared and gawked when I told them. I used to get the same looks when I was in the hobby of 16mm films and the cost involved.
Who's to say what a no longer available but iconic transmitter is worth?
@mark Regarding the Hurricane, have looked at them before, cheaper than a Talking House. I like it's built-in Bluetooth remote control feature (I think), it has some nice bells and whistles others don't, but no processor, -- but still seems a hell of deal for right around $100

Also, I think maybe someone already mentioned this ( in another thread?) but relevant to what we've been discussing above here, is that only four months ago an AMT3000 sold on eBay for $365. They certainly appear to be a sought-after item.
