The second iteration of the design has been done and is ready for prototyping. It's funny, the more you think about this thing, the more delays there are. I am also considering getting it FCC and ICAN approved because of the rules concerning marketing kits: they say quite clearly that they are not allowed (even though we do it).

I ran this by our approvals people at my work and they recommend it be approved especially due to the tightening up of rules of goods flowing in and out of the US due to homeland security controls. So even though it's a lot of cash, it's insurance of sorts and it also would be better for the end user at keeping the FCC happy.

I would love to give details and pictures, but I don't want to reveal everything at this point. By the summer, I hope to have it approved (barring any technical difficulties). Sure, I would submit a unit for comparison testing. The features are as I posted before...

weatherproof case (UV and IP67)
compact size for minimum mast loading
102" sectional aluminum antenna
10kHz channel spacing (9kHz optional)
auto power adjust
compressor/limiter
600 ohm input
mounts on standard 1.5" dia mast
12VDC supply and audio over standard 4-con telephone wire
litz wound antenna loading coil
lightning protection
worldwide shipping
SMT/thru hole mix
Price TBD

Included will also be an audio 600 ohm driver with adjustable input.

I am also considering an optional audio driver that accepts a standard USB memory device. This device will play a standard MP3 file allowing program material to run for days. This might be an alternative to the expense and difficulty of connecting up wide area coverage. Comments would be welcomed.

I forgot to add: this would not be a kit, but fully assembled except for the antenna.

Gerry
