So im not sure if this is the best place to do this but im wondering how do you get your Part 15 station to get some traffic on it. I know with the FM band it might be eaiser but I am trying for the AM since I can get some nice range and be legal.

Thanks 🙂

Advertise....I originally sent a letter in the mail addressed to "occupant" advertising my station to all the houses in my signal coverage area. Also had a poster on the community mail box where everyone in the immediate area would see when they get mail.

If you are friends with your neighbours tell them.

If you are legal, you've got nothing to hide.

Mark

I never thought about the mail trick.  May have to do that.  We may move to a new complex.  If so I'll see if I can mail the folks over there about my station.  Especially if I do AM.  I hope to do FM too but we'll see as I'm in need of a harmonics and splatter FREE FM transmitter.

How about getting some business cards made up (maybe $10 for a bunch if you design it yourself)?

Most local coffee shops, supermarkets, libraries, etc. have bulletin boards.  Post the business cards there.

Most apartment complexes have bulletin boards in laundry rooms.

You can even go around to local houses and put the card through the mail slot or into the mail box.

I used to record the amateur hour(s) at the local coffee shop and broadcast them during the week.  The artists would make sure that friends and family knew that they were being broadcast on the airwaves, and some would continue to listen.

I also went around to the local businesses to let them know that we existed.  Some were willing to play the station stream as background music - that's the advantage of Internet streaming, as listeners don't need to be in the over-the-air coverage area.

If you get out into the community and let yourself be known, you'll get listeners.

Many local communites have a FB page.  That is a good way to let people know what your doing and when.

I will try posting it on facebook pages and also advertise my facebook page and if people are likeing it then I got liseners 😛

Thanks 🙂

There is no law agaist it on Part 15 but you might be inviting trouble from ther locals. I would advise agaist it.

Mug shot in the paper might attract some attention.

Excellent publicity suggestions above, many of which I will steal!

And here's another thought to add to the pile of wisdom.  If there is a big neighborhood event... even a giant yard sale or something... you could consider doing some kind of remote from it.  Just make sure you have a sign or some handouts that list some compelling reasons for your neighbors to turn on your station.

Maybe you could ask a kind of "man on the street" question to those you give handouts to... tell them that they will be on the radio tonight or tomorrow or whenever, every hour at the top of the hour, so be sure to listen for themselves on the radio.  Alternatively, you could just have them record a simple "Hello, I'm blah blah blah, and I want to say hello to my daughter blah blah blah."  Everybody wants to hear their voice on the radio!

Oh, and I guess I'd do a neighborhood remote using a Part 15 FM transmitter or a cell phone as an RPU or Marti, if it's going to be live.  Or... you could just show up with a recording device, not do a full remote, but do the part where you record your neighbors and get them to listen for themselves later.

Ok I will try this. I guess I can also make people do recordings and send them to us on Facebook and I will add it in such as Your listening to Ice Radio here on (Frequency) AM.

I am not going to do FM unless I get some decent range and still be legal.

 🙂

When I first started I put flyers up on light poles, specifically ones with stop signs.

I have heard of Cat and Dog, Bunny, Weasel, Raccoon, Weasel, Fox, Anteater,

I've heard of Pirate Cat Radio, if that's the one you're thinking of, I've seen a site for it at some point. There's also a Black Cat too. The rabbit is Radio Bunny, who has the entire personna of a rabbit on the air, including a voice like the Easter Bunny.

Raccoonradio has been haunting different message boards for a while, with an animated raccoon in his profile picture. Guest on a classic Art Bell, an author on a book on radio I think talked about a Dog Radio, with all barking between songs, and the owner was supposedt to be a K-9 too?

There are several stations named Fox, I can't think of what they are now, but I read about them, and there was a carrier current transmitter called The Fox out there.

I don't remember the details about them at the moment, just seeing lots of animal's names in broadcasting, and was counting them like you'd count red cars on a trip or something.

Adding: As for publicizing my station, I don't really want to yet, not serious enough about it at this time. I'd like to be a community service in some way, but it hasn't taken shape yet. The thing is, I don't really have an agenda or something to broadcast about, just some cool music I like that's not getting played, and to do technical things with radio.
