i'm surprised the moderation hammer hasn't been lowered on this thread. if it eventually comes down, don't forget political topics are always welcome over at my forums in the appropriate sections.
Well, from my point of view, this isn't politics. Just common sense. Politicians of all persuasions try to turn discussions such as these to their advantage.
Hopefully we, as alternative media, can make a difference with that common sense approach. No innnocents deserve what happened in that school.
Even if the US banned all automatic weopons or brought in gun control the person that wants one will get one. The one used in that Florida shooting was purchased legally but it could just as surely be purchased illegally.
Cocaine is illegal but anyone that wants it gets it. Just like a gun. The legality doesn't matter.
You just can't get it at the store that's all.
As for Canada, Artisan is right but even here if someone wanted an autmatic weopon badly enough they would get one.
As for gun control in the US I don't think any president or congress of any political stripes is going to amend the constitution so gun control can be brought in.
It was mentioned above a couple of threads about moderation concerning this thread, I don't see the need for it. We are discussing an issue that is a hot topic these days and affects us all, yes even our Canadian members.
Information conveyed here could be later expressed on a talk show produced on a part 15 radio station providing valuable insight and opinions covering the topic at hand.

i give up, we don't want to restrict guns in this country, we want to keep on gutting healthcare and mental health support, and we don't want to hold the parents of minors responsible for the minors actions either financially and/or criminally nor do we want to confiscate the assets of adults through civil forfeiture.
well then we are going to continue to see these gun deaths at an ever increasing rate.
just wait till don the con guts more than 2T from social programs that are helping the mentally ill. we haven't seen nothing yet this is just the tip of the iceberg if he is successful in gutting entitlement programs by the amounts he is proposing.
keep making your thoughts and prayers, that won't do anything God isn't going to return and put a stop to all this and if he eventually does you may not like what form he is in or where he really comes from.
Robert, I like your wording:
"God isn't going to return and put a stop to all this and if he eventually does you may not like what form he is in or where he really comes from."
That's just as frightening as a school shooting.
Gutting healthcare and entitlements and the subject in this thread are two different issues.
As I said before in a civilized society why does anyone need a gun. But the US constitution says that all citizens are in the "malitia" as was written way back and the right of a citizen to bear arms can't be taken away.
So to have gun control and restrictions like other countries in the USA the constitution has to be changed and any president sworn in has to uphold the constitution.
I don't see any president trying to rewrite the constitution, that's all.
You could ban automatic weopons maybe without taking away the right to bare arms as Obama wanted to do but if someone wanted one badly enough they'd get one.
There could be a death penelty for anyone that does a crime like the one in Florida....but what if the parents don't know what the kid is doing? How can they be an accessory?
I don't agree with guns but it is not an easy thing to do to change the constitution and there's the lobby groups also.
I don't agree with it but what can you do?
Where do you think all the illegal guns on the street in Canada come from? So Canada has an interest in this also.
How does one explain the fact the the US cities with the most restrictive laws with regard to guns has the most gun violence? Also as in the original post, had the FBI done their job 17 kids would be alive today.
mental health and NIH funding has very much to do with it and conservative like to cut healthcare funding to give ever bigger tax breaks to billionaires and take away as much investemnt in the bottom 99% as possible.
well what happens when you flood the market with unfettered firearms access without any kind of limitation on who can have one and what kind of weaponry they can have and then cut health services and research including mental health funding and you wind up with what we have today.
a whole society of narcisitic sociopaths with unfettered access to almost any hardware they like.
it's not going to solve the entire problem but it will at least make it harder to affect mass murder.
and then and then these artards want to allow anyone to possess a silencer w/no regulation???? Really??? if you can legally own a gun you can legally attatch a silencer to it?
yes they are really trying to pass this and deregulate access.
Thanks for keeping this discussion civil but since many have had a chance to weigh in and we are beginning to repeat ourselves and drift into other political issues let's leave this with what has been posted.
Neil
