Somehow I fat fingered the password and I am locked out while using a specific machine. Presumably my IP is blocked? Don't know. Since I'm still logged in with the mobile phone here I am. Suggestions? I emailed JP but one of his email addresses bounced.

Were you using a VPN on that machine? The IP address looked similar to other posts that were obviously SPAM and recognized as such.

On the Mint machine, no on the VPN question. I have noticed at log on I cannot have a VPN running on PCs that have it but the Mint one doesn't have it (yet).

This site is not security paranoid. You can have a VPN running, but because of potential spam issues, it requires a little more verification that you are a human (rather than a bot). It usually requires you to resign in, and do a captcha. You can use anonymous email services.
You'd be amazed at how much garbage is attempted to be posted, even at a light traffic site such as this. But very little gets through, even with these relatively minor security touches. And the stuff that does manage to squeak through is dealt with by the moderators.
