I'm just getting up to speed with the SW200 audio processor. This weekend transmissions will commence with my local LPAM station. The SW200 manual describes operation quite well. I would be thankful for any tips and techniques that might not be covered by the manual.
Once you've hooked it up, fed it with the appropriate line level signal, and set an approximate setting for the input gain, it's hard to get a bad sound out of the SW200. At first, I noticed very little change in the sound on adjusting the controls for pre-emphasis, low EQ and High EQ. It took me a while to realize that it was because most AM receivers have quite restricted bandwidth, and you're not going to hear much of anything above about 4KHz, give or take, anyway.
Recently, I acquired an SW300 AM field strength and modulation monitor. I've been feeding the program line output into a small amp here, to monitor my signal. The difference between hearing my station on a regular AM receiver, and on this modulation monitor which has a wide bandwidth, is like night and day. I can hear a lot more of the top end. Adjusting the EQ and pre-emphasis controls on the SW200 produces a much more noticeable difference in sound.
What transmitter are you using? Sorry if you've already said so in another post. Let us know how your first weekend of broadcasting went.
PS - my station is pop and rock based. I set the peak control to a 50/50 mix of limiting and clipping. I like the bit of extra "bite" that introducing some clipping gives.
