I’ve been tuning around, and have been noticing some stations employing reverb in their signals.
Noticeably, anyone in the Philly area, listen to talk station IQ 106.9 FM

There is a rich reverb on the signal.
Does this help make talk FM more listenable ?
I know AM stations used it all the time.
I guess it makes people feel like they are listening to the person speak in an auditorium??
Hope everyone is hanging in there!

Verb and Reverb
There’s a local guy here that owns three AM stations and has reverb on all three. One is country, one oldies and the other one is R&B.
I started using a reverb plugin on my station but for some reason the plug in causes my player to vanish right after startup in the morning, so I turned the reverb off.
It was pleasing to hear, and I used only a hint of it, not auditorium strength.

the right amount of reverb
the right amount of reverb gives a perceived increase in snr and thus makes the signal more receivable/perceivable at a distance

Change is Good…
I obtained a Yamaha SPX-90 effects unit from a local station, WKDD 96.5, that was cleaning house. They had a bunch of surplus equipment in storage and decided to dump it all.
The Engineer said they put a new one in when they remodeled.

Artificial Depth
It’s a cheap/cheat effort to make dull programing sound colorful, no different from expecting iBOC to revive a dying industry.
