While cutting and steaming vegetables I was thinking how cool it would be if someone did a radio program about Part 15 topics and then distributed it here on the site. The next thing I thought of was a possible slogan, maybe for this web site or for related activity:
Part 15 – Where Imagination Meets Reality.
It makes more sense the more you think about it. No?

would be cool
That sounds like a cool idea!

Part 15 Radio Program
Carl, I think this is a good idea.
Years ago there was a group on the west coast which produced a weekly half hour or so program intended for the amateur radio audience. One of our club members would drop a dime and get it via long distance telephone then would pass the tape to me since I was net control for a weekly ARPSC net. I would “broadcast” this (allowed by the rules) and there was a lot of interest among the ham community.
Now with the internet distribution would be simple.
Maybe you could start this.

Many hands make light work
If we all (whoever “we” is!) recorded five minutes about what we are doing with our stations we could drop those blurbs into Audacity, drop a royalty free bed under it, pop on an intro, outro and a couple of intra-program transitions and and maybe a couple of doughnuts for those who wish to rebroadcast the show, we’d have a great little shindig, Part 15 style.

Planning Commintte
The response is encouraging. Maybe it can happen.
Neil, my reason for promoting the idea here is to avoid being the one to do a show, although I planned to eventually do one if no one else takes up the lead (pronounced “leed,” not “led”).
SCWIS, would you lay out a format we could all follow and then would it be possible to upload our contributions to part15.us ?
I would love to air all the stories recorded in mp3 format.
Maybe you could have a kind of audio “You Tube.”

Radio Program
Carl, I understand. Though I support the idea and would be willing to participate I prefer not to coordinate this.
Perhaps we can start with one program without a commitment to do more until we see how it goes.
Another possibility would be to record a “round table” discussion if we could link together via internet audio in real time conversational mode. I don’t know how to do this but with the talent we have available with our forum participants it might be possible.
Just some brainstorming to consider.

Workin’ up some ideas…
Gonna put together a wrapper, how about
“High Times with Low Power Radio”
Maybe use this royalty free item for a music bed/intro
Jazz Bar
Thinking about segments from station operators that had the following audio bits from each participant
1. A one minute (or less) station operator introduction with maybe part15.us user name, approximate location, what got you into low power radio, what you remember the most about getting started, different iterations of your station, what you are doing now and why.
2. A short audio sample of your station
Then a wrap up with the same bed, solicitation for contributions, a plug for Part15.us and that’s it.
Keep it short, sweet and easy, maybe three operators per episode, 5 minute show, link it on the front page, and ???

SCWIS
It is thrilling that you are building on the idea of a part 15 audio program to be put together by members. A committee that works together gets things done.
Suggestion: possibly invite title ideas from the members, with your title, “High Times with Low Power Radio” as the first submission.
Other news to report – Got an Alnico DJ-X3 all-band radio like the one you got, and have been scanning frequencies like a thirsty person, hearing train dispatchers, cabs, 2-meter ham and plenty of mystery carriers. I can get my wireless mics on it, at 183mHz and 912mHz, and check for harmonics of any future part 15 project. So far I am up to 925mHz, and by tonight we’ll pass the 1gb mark!
At 450.287mHz there’s the audio for a local 50kW AM station. Must be their STL. So we can keep listening to them even when a storm knocks out their AM!
