My Texas Part 15 tour is half done. Stations monitored so far;
Oldies 1650 in N. Dallas. This station has been dark for the last couple years. I talked with Steve last week and he tells me he is considering turning it back on. He had a pretty impressive signal from his Rangemaster considering it has lots of concrete, asphalt and tall buildings in the area. This signal was pretty good for several miles in all directions from the tollway and I-635. One of his “secret weapons” was the Optimod-AM processor in the audio chain! Nice.
The Crow cluster in McKinney. I heard two FMs, I believe it was 99.9 and separate programming in 95.7 which was simulcasted on AM 1650. This was a years or two ago when I picked them up. The FM signals were stronger than the AM signal. I understand that they may have a new AM transmitter so I will have to give them another listen.
Lakeshore 1650 KLSR in Rowlett. The signal sure takes a beating in the winter months as the propagation is not part 15 friendly at this QTH and the noise level is higher. The summer months bring much better conditions allowing greater distance.The Omnia A/XE processor in the audio chain feeding the Inovonics 222 has not had any problems with crashing or need for reboots.
KVMW AM 1670 in Mineral Wells. As typical with Rangemaster installations in N. Texas, it faded in about 4 miles away from the transmitter and was listenable at 3 miles. Programming was old time radio music. Sounded great.
Cactus Rose 1610 AM in Mingus, Tx. I picked this station up really clear in the town of Gordon a couple of miles away. Playing a unique Americana format. They were using an Alesis 3630 compressor limitter which did just fine with the music that they programmed.
As soon as time permits I will edit and post the video of these travels (after permission of the said stations has been granted of course), but there are a few more stations I need to listen to first.
Dewberry Jam, Bellmead 1580, KDSX, are on deck.
