March Mystery Month On The Blare Blog

March 5, 2019 by Carl Blare Leave a Comment

A real mystery has come to us in the form of unsigned emails sent to The Blare Blog at kdxradio.com.

So far there have been about 4 such emails, from a return address that seems to come from a fake website.

The unsigned person is preaching to us about what he believes we should not say on our own Blog and makes strong suggestions as to what he believes we should say, and this has been topped off with an implied threat.

During the month we will analyze the unsigned emails starting with a discussion of the threat.

The Mystery will be simulcast here at Carl’s Blog because we have reason to believe the unsigned emailer is a member of the part 15 universe.

Carl’s Back Room

March 3, 2019 by Carl Blare 10 Comments

Thank you Artisan Radio for directing me to this very hidden Blog Section of the forum.

We’ll take it for a test drive to see if it fills our needs and if everything checks out we’ll be moving Carl’s Blogum into this “blog section”.

The decision hangs on one main point – will site members be able to write responses and comments just like in the forum section?

We can check that out right away.

I need to ask a question that solicits response. Let’s see… o.k., here’s one:

Last week a bat got into our radio station. While it flew around we abandoned the control room and panicked.

Have you ever had a bat in your radio station?

Low Power Hour No. 72

February 17, 2013 by Carl Blare

Episode 72 begins with Low Power in the News including several stories straight from the Forums and Blogs of Part15.us, as well as news of a hacked EAS System at KRTV, Great Falls, Montana; a report on 50kW KAAY, Little Rock, Arkansas, 1090 AM; a quick stop at the website for End 80 Radio, Tybee Island, Georgia; and a new “end of the world prophesy” to replace the expired Mayan and Rev. Camping predictions.

We visit with Radio Dan to learn about his successful radio series being heard on numerous Part 15 stations, and it’s likely you’ll want to add this show to your station’s lineup.

Filament

February 13, 2013 by Carl Blare

The expression “exclusive of filament or heater power” as stated in 15.219 has never become clear to my understanding. Obviously it refers to electron tubes, which contain filaments. “Heater” is another word for filament, owing to their contribution to heat within the tube. But in determining the input to a final electron tube stage the power drawn by the filament is clearly separate from input or output power from that tube, so there seems no reason to mention filament power at all. Why are filaments mentioned in the rule?

Detailing the Sketchy Rules

February 13, 2013 by Carl Blare

In this blogger’s opinion the Part 15 Rules are sketchy.

They lay out a model scenario; a general situation; a typical setup.

But the Part 15 Rules do not attempt to anticipate the infinite possible situations that might arise, and therefore must be applied creatively.

Let’s start with the known, and work our way outward from there.

At your house the Rules allow an AM transmitter with 3-meter antenna, 100mW to the input of the final RF stage. A well worn fact. Such a transmitter, if well installed, might reach 1,000-feet or better.

Suppose in four other blocks, east, west, north and south of your home, you owned other homes. A total of five homes.

Each of those homes would qualify for yet more of the same type Part 15 AM installations.

Suppose you consolidated these into a single, centrally located system.

You would be entitled to 500mW to the final RF stage and 15-meters of antenna.

Make sense?

Yes, it does.

That illustrates the intent of the Part 15 Rules.
