Well, it has been a rough couple of weeks here in SWMO…2 stations on and 2 stations off…does anyone else ever wonder why they bother? Is it to satisfy some sick urge to broadcast? Or, is it to provide otherwise non-existant services to those who listen? It seems that when I get two or three up and going, one is down for whatever reason…anyone else ever struggle with this? I thought the hardest part would be programming content…

I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted, but I really have something bothering me…everybody seems to not really care about the proposed “sequester” due to start tonight at midnight…the news covers “expect delays at the airports” and “expect fewer services at national parks” but no one seems to care that cuts to DOD and DOJ may cause bigger problems than a few inconveniences…for example, in the last week alone, there were two murders at two different Federal Prisons…is it time we did less in the “danger and security” business, but fund increases in the IRS (944 million), FCC (350 million), and EPA (8.6 billion)?  Why do DOJ employees have to take 14 unpaid “furlough” days each this fiscal year to save money?  Does anyone care if inmates climb the fence, or criminals go unprosecuted?  Just asking…done with this rant…

I know I’m the annoying new guy to part15.us, but I have a probably stupid question…If I’m winding a piece of PVC with wire to make a loading “coil” for my Part 15 AM station, and I have 200 feet of wire on there, but it is only 3.5 feet “high” is it “legal” or do I even add it in to the “height” or is it just a loading coil? I’m really confused on EXACTLY what constitutes an antenna and a “coil.” As usual, any help would be GREATLY appreciated…

Last night was a mostly successful broadcast! Thanks to all for helping out! FM transmitted beautifully (the best I can tell) but we had 0 output on AM. I have the oscillator not-oscillating but I have a Ramsey AM1 that I’m going to get going this week just in time for next week’s broadcast. The “talking house” transmitter from the garage sale for $8 turned out to be worth less than the cost, but everything else went off without a hitch…I also have a crystal for 880 KHz (which I was going to coordinate with the other two frequencies) so I don’t know if I will use 1000 or 880 on AM yet, I will let you know! Let me know what you think!

Well, last night, we braved the storm, sort of…with sky to ground lightening and tornado warnings in our immediate area, I did a “dry” run without the transmitters…I just ran the programming as scheduled and did a check on everything in the morning…along with 4.5″ of rain over the last 24 hours, and some minor wind damage in the immediate area, we weathered well…batteries worked as they should except for the battery on the mixer…but I found the excessive drain and fixed it right after Church today…and everything played through…NEXT Saturday night we WILL launch at 23:59 CST…all will be well…
