Again we welcome Lester Roadhog Moran, with the audition tape that got him started and inspired KDX to start an audition program on the air known as Idle American. We met up with two fellows, one of them actually a fellowess, from another streaming station while shopping a carrier current part at a hardware store. Flash Frisbone new episode, and a call from the audience. More on Flotilla’s voice.

New mp3 Streaming Rate
Because a listener had jumpy playback from a previous Low Power Hour (56kbps, mp3), the new Low Power Hour No. 26 is released at a slightly slower bit rate speed of 40kbps, hoping we are getting to a rate the listener’s computer will accept.
If you notice anything, please add a comment.

Recommendation
I would provide both a low bit rate and a higher bit rate version. Forcing everyone to the lower quality because of 1 listener having troubles isn’t the way to go.

On Saturday
Every Saturday 11:00am – 12:00 noon I run LPH.
What I noticed is that the recording is MP3 40 kbps. Remember, recorded sound files are not the same as the broadcast stream. IOW, my suggestion is that you make the recording at a much higher rate, or AAC, or ….
E.g., Free Speech Radio Network uses 128kbps, Powered Sport Flying Radio uses 96kbps, most of my musician friends use 320kbps, Twilight Zone Radio Dramas also use 320kbps files
This way, at least we start with a high-quality sound file. That will make a big difference no matter what rate you broadcast. I for one don’t mind waiting for a high-quality file to download, and HD capacity is cheap these days.

Submissions Welcomed
The ideas are all being sifted through the traffic pile-up in my head.
Today I produced a one-hour Blare OnAir intended as a re-organization meeting of the kdx staff, in which many issues were to have been resolved. But I am not a good meeting man, so the program will be continued over into a second show.
One of the issues to be discussed is “Where to go with bit-rates.”
We have been called a 2-bit program.

RE: On Saturday
Well, I’m gonna have to listen to it separately, as I missed my own broadcast due to taking an AARP Safe Driving class all day today (I drive a taxi part-time, like to stay sharp and abreast of new regs).
Worth it though. By WA State law, my insurance company has to give me a discount for acquiring the certificate, not much, but $50/year is better than a needle stuck in yer eye!

That is $50 well earned.
