Recently, in connection with my ongoing thread titled “Indoor Antennas”, I upgraded one of my Wintennas (antennas based on loading storm window frames) to include a AMT3000 and a triangular shaped loading coil and a dipolar baseboard grounding system, so that it matched a similar system in another location fed by a AMT5000, and the differences were dramatic.
By far the AMT5000, a transmitter from sstran.com, far outreaches the signal from the AMT3000.
The AMT3000 perfectly fills the indoor space with AM reception, and covers the outdoor property at the same time. But the signal falls off sharply beyond the property boundaries.
On the other hand the AMT5000, given equal conditions, reaches three or four blocks and can be heard in small trace signals for about a mile or more.
If you wish to be the DX signal waiting to be caught, I would suggest the AMT5000.
This is an unpaid testimonial.

Great Experiment Carl!
I think they delivered the pizza.
That was REALLY fast.
TOO fast.
I still can’t get the door open.
No door, no pizza.
Why didn’t I think of that before?

How can I make my TH ATU work with this transmitter ?
I am thinking about getting one , but I want to use my TH ATU .
Any ideas ?

Heart Bypass
To use the ATU with the AMT5000 you would simply bypass the loading coil ib-built to the AMT5000 and use the ATU in its place. No problem.

5k-ATU
That is if the 5k unit can retain it’s “sweet spot” of high efficiency with that ATU connected to it.
Your forgetting that the ATU is designed for a 75 ohm feed.
The 5k might need a little modifying.
Not to mention would that pass an inspection.
Let us know what happens.

Should Work Fine
The AMT5000 has a very full set of adjustments for many different situations, the main item being the antenna itself, 3-meters, located away from obstructions.
The loading coil, whether the in-built one or a user-supplied one, is tuned for resonance, the AMT setup instructions followed for peaking it correctly, the input to the Final RF Amp Stage set to 100-mW, and there you are.
There is nothing about that that could fail an inspection.
Also, yes, I am forgetting the 75-ohm thing. Doesn’t matter at all.

Did You Hear The One About The TH OET Data…
Acutally the OET data supplied by Radio Systems states the Talking House is designed for 50 ohms.
Don’t know why they supply RG-6 with it.

Let’s Face the Music and Dance
MRAM, ever since you went on your comedy tour last night I have been acting sillier than usual, thinking maybe I could be your warm-up act when you head to Branson.
But I’m here on business.
Of course the AMT5000 output is not the standard 50-ohms, for a very intelligent reason: PhilB designed for the extreme inefficiency of a 3-meter medium wave antenna, which does not lend itself well to a 50-ohm world, which would normally expect a quarter-wave antenna, or more.
But the ATU is a passive circuit, like any hand-made coil, and loading it at a different impedance, other than 50-ohms, would simply shift the “sweet spot” for resonance to a different point on the coil.
I believe I am true about this.
mram1500 says
Not To Say That It Is…
I’d agree to a point. A hand made coil can be tapped for the proper feed impedance, with a lot of trial and error. Feeding into a mismatch, resonant or not, causes power reflection (SWR).
I was only pointing out that, per the OET data, Talking House apparently designed their system around the 50 ohm norm as they tested it using 50 ohm coax. Not to say it is, but the ATU input uses a toroid transformer at the coax to couple signal to the loading coil. Still not sure why they supply 75 ohm coax. Maybe they changed the design or found it works better.
About the comedy routine, I recently reduced/eliminated taking my blood pressure meds as my blood pressure has been below normal. Three days ago, after feeling fatigued, light headed and confused, I found my blood pressure to be 78 over 52. Now that’s pretty low.
After I went off the meds, my pressure is normal and I have become much more alert. After reading through all we’ve been through here the last few weeks the jokes just starting rolling out as I, for whatever reason, found some humor in all of it. And ya know what they say if you can’t take a joke…
Like a family with cabin fever, we had a spat.

Comedy Cures
Switching into a comedy mindset is a very effective pressure release, and can restore calm to a tense mind.
Life, on its own terms, is absurd, hopeless, sad, meaningless and even embarrassing.
But a little humor can subdue all that reality and make a person experience the sensation of having a good time.
Add part 15 radio to the mix, and you’ve basically got it made.

More AMT5000 Benefits
Some days I feel like I’m an infomercial for the AMT5000, but my testimonial is genuine, I am not paid off in free transmitters.
EVERYDAY there is a several hour period before my stream hits the internet. This is “local” time and I listen to radio programs using part 15 that are not licensed for internet, including the Alex Jones Show, which I admire.
For awhile I used the AMT3000 for these early transmissions, but to be more “local” I’ve found that turning the AMT5000 for minimum power is even better.
The signal range of the AMT5000 between minimum and maximum is about 15dBm, which makes a large difference in distance range.
At minimum power the AMT5000 reaches indoor radios, but gets almost nowhere on the outdoor side.
A small amount of background also mixes with the weak signal, be it distant stations or lightning static.
It makes my station seem like it is far away. I know I am.
