It Does Help
Thanks Station8 for the info about AM stereo receivers available now. That is good news for anyone thinking about trying stereo AM.
The subject of this thread is “Stereo AM Receivers”, and I do not want to hi-jack the thread by changing the subject, so I will lie a little bit to make my subject fit without spoiling the thread:
I am having a problem with a radio made by a prominent manufacturer. It is somewhat of a stereo radio. Is it stereo AM? I’m not sure. It has a mono speaker built in, but at least for FM the output line jack will deliver a stereo signal, and also the headphone kack is stereo. But that’s not the problem.
The radio has started changing channels without human intervention. For example, I will be monitoring my editing project at 101.5 FM, and suddenly the radio jumps to 101.3 or some other frequency, usually a spot where there is no station so it sounds noisy and annoying.
Should I slam the radio against a wall, or, open it up and fiddle with wires?
I will not name the manufacturer because what few radio makers there are cannot afford bad publicity.
Now back to AM stereo.

Carl I would fiddle with the
Carl I would fiddle with the wires first, its not one of those micro push switch’s packing in . If all fails give it a few choice words and then slam it against the wall.

INFO No. 1
Hi Carl:
1) If you have a pocket radio with 1 speaker normally the am is mono and fm is stereo but you need to plug in headphone into jack which is stereo.
2) I have seen very few am pocket radio to be AM stereo.
3) To see if radio is am stereo you need to do research at company to see if it’s mono or stereo.
As your radio changing frequency on it’s own i have never heard of that happening, You have gremlins.
Do you have a scan button on radio,Did it get stuck or the is it dirty.
I have heard of high power rf signal causing issue with some equipment doing weird stuff, Has anything change in your area within a few days. ( example like cb etc. )
I had a radio shack pocket radio ran great one day turn it on the next day all you hear is white noise on am with no station reception on fm it’s white noise and a very slight to none reception.
good luck Jeff

AM Stereo to Make a Come Back?
A few of us Part 15ers would love to see AM Stereo brought back.
Guess what? Maybe it will come back.

Somewhere around on the internet is a very
up-to-date list of AM C-QUAM stations around
the world. And a few are using the Khan system, too.
But just one or two.
Some present “HD” receivers are made to get C-QUAM also. But one of themost famous, the Sony XDR-F1HD tuner does not.
I’ll be back.
